WARNING: I'm a nerd when it comes to following the comings and goings and such in the Atlanta radio world.
So for a person like me, late 2007/2008 has been crazy. The world of Atlanta radio has changed so much in the past few months. Let's take a trip down "Recent Atlanta Radio Changes Lane"...
Well working our way down the dial, we start with 92.9 dave fm. During the last few months, they have added a new morning show entitled the Zakk Tyler Show, which sucks.
Star 94 canned Steve and Vikki and brought in The Morning Mess from Indianapolis. They're okay, but they seem a little cheesey and out of their element, which seems to be small market hackey radio.
So that's TWO new morning shows already in Atlanta during the last few months.
Next, we come to 94.9 The Bull who also added a new morning show with country parody singer Cledus T Judd. I think they've made some smart decisions recently, which is surprising considering that they're owned by Clear Channel.
Next comes 95.5 The Beat, I don't listen and I don't believe anything major has happened there recently, so next.....
Project 9-6-1, or as some say project 9-sucks-1. They blow. And their GIANT morning show sucks.
97.1 The River: eh...what an awful excuse for a radio station. It's a stinkin' jukebox that plays the same crappy 250 songs over and over and over and over. Oh and hey 97.1 The River, stop calling yourselves "NEW" cause you ain't no mo. fo shizzle.
B98.5: The announcement was recently made that former Star 94 morning show, Steve and Vikki, will be reviving their morning show on B98.5 this summer, which means that long time morning show, Kelly and Alpha (which is two dudes by the way, seriously) are out. I approve of this move. A smart move by the Cox sisters.
Q100 at 99.7: we all now what happened here...99x is gone and queer 100 moves up to a better signal to take on star 94. smart move.
Now here's the best recent move in my opinion....Rock 100.5 now occupies q100's old frequency and adds The Regular Guys as their morning show. Yeah C'mon!!! Best morning show ever.
So now here's where today's news comes into play...Kicks 101.5 and Eagle 106.7, which are owned by the same company, fired 12 of 15 on-air folks today between the two stations. rumor is that 106.7 will be flipping formats very soon. The biggest name gone is Atlanta country radio legend Rhubarb Jones. A very sad day for atlanta country radio. The Biggest Winner b/c of today's move: well it should be 94.9 The Bull, but knowing clear channel, they'll find a way to mess this gift up. They need to add a live person to afternoon drive and stop voice tracking with cledus and the "t party."
So 92.9, 94.1, 94.9, 98.5, 100.5, 101.5, and 106.7 will all have had new morning shows within the past few months. That's unheard of. I would hate to be hoping to pursue a job one day in the radio world; the future does not look too bright....oh wait.
I may be wrong, but I believe that after all these moves are complete, Kevin and Taylor will be the longest running morning show in Atlanta over at 104.7 The Fish. Bert and his gang may have been here a tad longer, I'm not totally sure.
Anyways, what an interesting time for Atlanta radio.
If you read all of that...you have no life.
I am so geeked up on coffee now...
So I went and saw Will Ferrel's new movie, Semi-Pro, at a midnight screening last night. I must say that I was a tad disappointed. It was funny, but not anchorman or talladega nights funny. The best part was Will Arnett's character. That dude is a funny man. He also played Gob in the awesomely amazing show Arrested Development, which I hear may be revived as a movie soon. That would be super.
my mind is all over the place right now as I listen to avril lavigne and miley cyrus and tom petty blast out of my speakers. what a weird mix.
and as miley says...the next we hang out, i'll redeem myself...with more coherent thoughts.
the last time i freaked out! my best leslie just said, oh she's just being miley....oh whoa oh whoaa.
word of the day: formaldehyde.
